Abner Doubleday

Biography

Abner Doubleday was a Union Army officer who gained prominence during the American Civil War. He served as a major in the Mexican-American War and later commanded artillery units in several key Civil War battles, including Gettysburg where he played a significant role in the Union victory. After the war, he remained in the military and was eventually promoted to major general, serving in various administrative and command positions until his retirement.
