Matthew Simpson

Biography

Matthew Simpson was a prominent American Methodist bishop and influential religious figure during the nineteenth century. He served as bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was known for his powerful oratory and theological scholarship. Simpson was also deeply involved in social reform movements, particularly abolition, and used his position to advocate for moral causes throughout the Civil War era and Reconstruction period.
