Biography
Nelson Appleton Miles was a prominent Union general who rose through the ranks during the American Civil War and became one of the most celebrated military figures of the late 19th century. After the Civil War, he led numerous campaigns against Native American tribes and served as commanding general of the United States Army. Miles was known for his aggressive tactics, ambition, and controversial leadership style, and he remained influential in military affairs well into the early 20th century.
